Destroyer

Hello to the couple of you who actually read my posts! haha
I know I said the next post would be about Mary Queen of Scots or You, but I guess it makes sense to write about Destroyer whilst it still is in theatres.

This movie is said to be Nicole Kidman’s best performance ever. I must say I haven’t watched a lot of her films – only Moulin Rouge [lovelyyyyyyy] and The Interpreter. So, I’m not a Nicole Kidman fan but I like what I’ve seen.

In Destroyer, she is undoubtedly unrecognizable. I can’t even tell what age she is, but I reckon Detective Erin Bell is in her forties [?]. She plays an agent who, in her twenties [?], was undercover in a gang who robbed banks. Now, and after at least sixteen years, she finds out the gang is back in action and wants to do what she wasn’t able to before – stop them.
It’s funny the film name is Destroyer since Nicole Kidman plays a woman who is destroyed by the bad choices she made, abusive behavior and who cannot cope to live with the path her life took. Besides this, she is the true destroyer. If you expect to see a brilliant performance you will not be surprised, because it truly is an amazing role. The make-up work is great, giving the sense she looks much older than what she is in fact. When in a flashback you see young Erin Bell, with a light face, not carrying the pain she now carries and that is brought to her facial expressions.

Another plus is… Tatiana Maslany! I only found out she was in the film when I was entering the theatre, and I immediately became more excited about it. Although her role is relevant, I felt she is too little on screen. Nevertheless, she is a fountain of talent that cannot be ignored. One of the greatest actresses ever, I dare to say! So… she should have gotten more screen time! haha

To sum up, it is worth watching, mostly because of Kidman’s performance, but not only due to that. The story is good, the plot twist is better.

[Side note: how can someone in her fifties look so good as a twenty-something-year-old??]
