Hey, guys! So, you must’ve heard about Netflix’s Sex Education, starring the talented Asa Butterfield – The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and Hugo – and the amazing Margot Robbie lookalike Emma Mackey.
Since I haven’t been much occupied lately, I’ve watched Sex Education in two days. It only has 8 episodes, which made me a bit sad, because I wanted so much more! But this only reminded me that I had a teacher who told me several times “Ana, it is better when you crave for more of something than when you feel it is too much”. She always referred to reading/writing when saying this, but I remember her wisdom in almost every situation since I feel it applies to most things in life.
Sex Education is a beautiful show due to its lightness in bringing up subjects that are still taboos among us. It talks about teenage sex, masturbation, homosexuality, gender prejudice, abortion, pregnancy, queer and so many others with a natural approach, without any prejudice or fear of touching someone’s nerves.
Otis, the main character, struggles with masturbation and his mother, a sex therapist, tries to help him when she acknowledges the situation. This, obviously, makes the boy uncomfortable but he then realizes he can help his fellow colleagues as his mother helps her patients. I really have to mention the one thing that made me so happy about his character/this show. Ottis’s best friend, Eric, is gay and he loves dressing exuberantly and putting on drag-inspired make-up. So, on Eric’s birthday, Otis and Eric dress up in drag and go watch Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I mean, what kind of 16-year-old boy dresses up in drag to make his best friend happy on his birthday?! This is the most beautiful gesture! Otis is a great character and has a lot to teach to every human being.

Anyway, I don’t want to spoil the show. Just want to tell you it is worth it. It will surely make you a better person. If you’ve watched, let me know your opinion on the comment section. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
In other news, should my next post be about Netflix’s You or the movie Mary Queen of Scots? Please comment.
Love,
Ana Teresa
